Audit Log
How the audit log keeps your household transparent and what exactly gets recorded.
Why an audit log?
Once several people manage a household together in Evensum, a question inevitably comes up: who actually entered this item? Who changed the rent amount? The audit log answers these questions reliably and creates transparency, without anyone having to remember every change manually.
What gets recorded?
Evensum automatically records the key actions in a household, including:
- Who made the change (which member)
- What was changed (e.g., "Recurring item Rent edited")
- When the change happened (date and time)
- What value changed, where relevant (e.g., old and new amount)
Recorded actions include:
- Creating, editing, and deleting recurring income or expenses
- Ledger entries
- Changes to an item's splitting mode
- Creating and deleting accounts
- Inviting and removing members
- Changes to recorded income
- Fuel and charging entries for vehicles
Where to find the audit log
In the Audit Log area of your household, you'll see a chronological list of all recorded actions, most recent first. You can filter the list by member or by area (for example, only changes to recurring costs).
An example
Imagine the monthly streaming subscription is raised from €15 to €18, and a member updates the amount in Evensum. The audit log shows an entry like:
March 12, 2026, 6:42 PM – Person B edited the item "Streaming Subscription": Amount €15 → €18
This lets you trace at any time when and by whom your recurring costs changed, without needing to ask each other.
Transparency, not surveillance
The audit log isn't intended as a monitoring tool but as a shared memory for the household. Especially with shared finances, it helps resolve discrepancies quickly and objectively, instead of relying on memory.
Visibility
All members of a household see the same audit log — there are no hidden entries or entries visible only to the owner. This equal treatment is part of Evensum's core philosophy: shared finances should be equally traceable for everyone involved.
Retention
Audit log entries persist for as long as the household exists. If a household is deleted, its associated log entries are removed as well, according to the rules described in the FAQ.
