FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Evensum: privacy, accounts, multiple households, breakups, and more.
General questions
Is Evensum financial advice?
No. Evensum is a planning and organizational tool for shared household finances. The app does not provide individual financial, investment, or legal advice. All calculations (buffer recommendations, settlement payments, averages) are based solely on the data you enter. For tax or legal questions, please consult an appropriate professional.
How is my data protected?
Your data is used exclusively to provide the app's functionality. Only members of a household have access to that household's data. The app and your data are hosted on servers in Germany and subject to the GDPR; email delivery also runs through a European provider. See the app's privacy policy for details on data processing.
Can I change my email address?
Yes. Under More → My account you can enter a new email address. A confirmation link is sent to the new address – the change only takes effect once you click it; until then your current address remains active. Afterwards you sign in via magic link to the new address.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. In your account settings, you can permanently delete your user account at any time. If you're the sole owner of a household with other members, you should transfer the owner role first, so the household remains intact for the remaining members.
Is there a dark mode?
Yes. Under More → Appearance you can choose between Light, Dark, and System (follows your device setting, the default). The choice is saved per device.
Households & members
Can I belong to multiple households?
Yes, you can be a member of as many households as you like — for example, a personal household and a shared flat's finances. You simply switch between your households within the app.
What happens if a partner leaves the household or the relationship ends?
If a member leaves the household — for example after a breakup — accounts, recurring costs, and the ledger remain intact for the remaining members. The departing person loses access to the household's data. Any outstanding settlement payments should be resolved before someone leaves, since Evensum calculates and displays balances but doesn't execute payments itself.
Who can see my income?
Your recorded income is visible to all members of the same household, since it's the basis for proportional splitting by income. Members of other households cannot see this information.
Features
Does Evensum execute transfers automatically?
No. Evensum calculates who owes whom and how much, and displays this clearly. You carry out the actual transfer yourself through your bank.
Is a data export planned?
Exporting your data (e.g., as CSV or PDF) is planned as a future feature. Until then, all values can be reviewed directly through the statistics views.
Can I create custom categories?
Yes, in addition to predefined categories like Housing, Groceries, or Mobility, you can create custom categories per household — for pet supplies or club memberships, for example.
What happens to my data if I don't pay?
All core Evensum features remain free to use indefinitely. Without a Premium subscription, you'll simply see ads; your data and functionality are unaffected.
Does Evensum support multiple vehicles and powertrains at once?
Yes, you can add any number of vehicles with different powertrains (gasoline, diesel, electric, plug-in hybrid) within the same household and evaluate their costs separately.
How secure is the magic link login?
Magic link sign-in avoids passwords that could be stolen or guessed. The link is valid for a limited time, can only be used once, and is sent exclusively to the email address you provided.
